NIHR Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (CRF) clinical research fellow in field of infectious diseases or immunology, or phase 1 clinical trials. A CRF Fellowship is open to those training in, or wishing to develop a clinical or research interest in infectious diseases or immunology, or associated field (such as infections of respiratory disease or rheumatology) and/or a career in experimental medicine or phase 1 trial set-up and delivery. The CRF has full MHRA Phase 1 accreditation and provides globally leading training in safe delivery of early phase clinical trials in patients and healthy volunteers.

50% of the fellow’s time will be spent on research service provision providing medical support and cover to adult studies occurring on the CRF. The remaining 50% of each fellow’s time will be available to be spent supervised by Professor Saul Faust, Professor Rob Read, Prof Chris Edwards, Prof Tony Williams or other University of Southampton clinical academic with the intention of providing the time and support for an application to be made for a formal externally funded research training fellowship and registration for study towards a higher degree (usually PhD or MD). The post will be appointed for 1-2 years in the first instance, depending on candidate needs. Where appropriate, funding may be extended by fixed time periods where academic progress is considered satisfactory.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and Right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.

Appointment will be made under Local Contractual Terms and Conditions of Service for Trust Appointed (Non-Training Fellow Doctors and Dentists) which will be published and available at time of offers.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) Fellows will be paid a basic salary at a Nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
