With recent NICE guidance stating the necessity of infants and children with food allergy to receive dietetic support to manage their condition, experience of managing paediatric patients with food allergy is an integral part of many paediatric dietetic posts. Consequently, this role is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of managing the nutritional and dietetic challenges of paediatric patients with food allergy.

We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our Specialist Paediatric Dietetic Team within University Hospitals Southampton.  We are able to offer a part-time (7.5 hours per week) on a fixed term basis for 12 months working in our Paediatric Allergy services. We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian who has a passion for working in this specialist field, with transferable skills and an ability to learn. Some experience of paediatric allergy is advantageous but we will be able to offer in-house training and support within our world renowned paediatric allergy service to develop your skills as required.

You will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team within the Paediatric integrated within a team of highly specialist allergy dietitians based at Southampton Childrens Hospital.  The caseload will be mainly outpatient based but experience of working with patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting is desirable. The post holder will be a qualified dietitian, currently registered with the HCPC, with relevant CPD, postgraduate development and clinical experience.  This will include evidence of some skills and knowledge related to food allergy. An understanding of the nutritional challenges people with food allergy experience is also important.   Aside from strong clinical skills we need someone who is a good team player, with evidence of being able to manage a busy caseload, delivering on both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.  You will have excellent communication skills and evidence of MDT working. Demonstration of initiative and ability to work independently is also required. You may be required to participate in student training for B and C placements.

University Hospital Southampton FT is a leading teaching hospital hosting a wide array of specialist tertiary services and NIHR Biomedical Research Units including a Respiratory BRU, and the only Nutrition Biomedical Research Centre in England. We are committed to research and the paediatric dietetic service is actively involved in clinical audit and research projects and there will be scope to develop this within the role.

The Department of Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy employs approximately 100 staff including Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Nutrition Nurse Specialists, Assistants and Administration staff working across acute and community services and providing training for student dietitians on B and C placements.  We have clinical experts working across the range of specialities who take a proactive and imaginative approach to delivering a patient and family centred service. CPD opportunities are well supported through a robust appraisal process with staff encouraged through a supportive framework to submit work for publication or presentation.
