The Hazel Centre is located at Countess Mountbatten Hospice, Botley Road, West End and forms part of the palliative care services within University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust (UHS).  The Centre works in collaboration with our community specialist palliative care team, palliative medicine consultants, therapy team and the voluntary sector. We provide a comprehensive and holistic service which encompasses symptom management, psychological care, carer support and rehabilitation, with the aim of assisting patients to live well within the limits of their illness.

We deliver a 5 day a week service for patients with both malignant and non-malignant disease within a day hospice setting.  The Hazel centre offers a diverse range of services including a rolling programme of information-giving alongside mutual support, an information and resource drop in service, psychological support and complementary therapies. Our therapy team deliver multiple therapy led groups including OK to exercise and a fatigue and breathlessness clinic (FAB).

The applicant will need to have an in depth understanding of specialist palliative care needs, excellent communication skills and must demonstrate the ability to teach within a clinical setting together with leading patient and family group discussions. Individuals attending the Hazel Centre have a variable level of independence; therefore the ability to undertake the moving and handling of patients and use appropriate equipment is essential. Co-ordination, leadership and support of volunteers and activities are core components of this post.  The post holder must be highly motivated, enthusiastic with a genuine interest in palliative care. They must be committed to continuous development, team working, and mutual support and able to demonstrate working within the trust values of: patients first, working together and always improving.

We look forward to applicants who are registered nurses, ideally at degree level, with evidence of recent relevant study and show evidence of professional development.

The Hazel Centre vacancy is currently for fifteen hours. However, should an applicant wish to work additional contracted hours, these hours can be negotiated at interview, and would be working within the hospice inpatient unit at Countess Mountbatten House.
